Puruhutika Devi Temple is located at Pithapuram, Andhra Pradesh, and is 20 km from Kakinada and 75 km from Rajahmundry. It is known as one of the 18 Shaktipeeths in India. The temple is popular for the temples of Kukkuteswara Swamy, Kuntimadhava Swamy, Sri Pad Vallabh Anagha Data Kshetram, Agraharam, and Sri Venu Gopala Swamy Temple. Puruhutika Devi was worshiped by Lord Indra. When Indra betrayed Ahilya (wife of Gautam Maharishi) on his way to Gautam Rishi and was cursed by Maharishi. Indra lost his testes as well as vaginal marks all over his body. He felt sorry and prayed to Gautam Rishi. The sage informed and accepted that the marks of the vagina would appear like eyes so that Indra would be called Sahasraksha after him. Indra lost his testes. He wanted to get them back. He left his kingdom, went to Pithika Puri and did penance for Jagannatha. After a long time, Jaganmata appeared to him and blessed him with prosperity and testis. Indra was really satisfied and prayed to her in the form of Puruhutika Devi. After a long time, Jagadguru Sripada Vallabh took birth in Pithapuram. He also worshipped Puruhutika Devi and made his mark. He is the form of Dattatreya. And Pithapuram is also considered Dakshina Kashi.
